One week ago, CDProjekt Red launched their latest open world title Cyberpunk 2077. Today, that game has been delisted from the PlayStation Store, and Sony is offering refunds on the game.
The response to Cyberpunk 2077 has been extremely mixed, to say the least. When the game launched, players found a game that was both impressive in its scope, yet extremely restrained. Instead of being the next big thing in open-world games, the game feels like a good “more of the same” style experience. More to the point, the game is riddled with bugs unlike any other game I’ve seen…
This past week, Rockstar Games tweeted out a very brief teaser for the next Grand Theft Auto online update. With this tweet came a trending topic that has since taken off in the worst way.
In 2013, Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto V to both critical and commercial success. To date, this is the highest-grossing piece of media in history, grossing upwards of $6 billion dollars on a budget of $265 million dollars (as of 2018). …
The eighth console generation has not been particularly kind to Xbox. After stumbling out of the gate with a significantly rough launch of the Xbox One, Microsoft has been struggling to play catch up. Microsoft has consistently been in second place to Sony’s monster of a console, the PlayStation 4. Even worse, the Nintendo Switch is rapidly approaching the lapping of lifetime Xbox One sales. The eighth generation of consoles was properly unveiled at E3 2013. With this unveiling game two very different presentations. Microsoft came out of the gate with a lumbering disposition. …
For those that follow gaming news regularly, the past two weeks have been a nightmare for Activision-Blizzard. Blizzard banned professional Hearthstone player Wai Chung “Blitzchung” Ng for speaking out in support of the ongoing pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong. With his declaration of “liberate Hong Kong, the revolution of our age,” Blitzchung seemingly sealed his fate: a year-long ban from Hearthstone competition and the withholding of his prize winnings. The casters involved with the event were also fired, for reasons still unknown. …
At long last, the Electronics Entertainment Expo is right around the corner once again. With E3 right around the corner, gamers once again find themselves in a fever pitch in anticipation of the event. Some are searching for leaks while others are eagerly awaiting the event, hypothesizing about the potential announcements to be made. In some ways, E3 really is “gamer Christmas” as it has come to be known.
This year, however, there is an air of uncertainty in Los Angeles. For the first time since the mid-90s Sony will not be attending the event, leaving the rest of the…
If you do a cursory Google search about single-player games, you will find that someone, somewhere is saying that they are dead. However, reality paints a different picture. In an ever-evolving industry, the idea of the gamer’s ideal experience has changed time and time again. In this latest year, a single player experience is seen as a luxury of sorts rather than the idealistic norm, according to certain game publishers. Yet, I can’t help but feel that these reports are not only a gross misrepresentation of the truth but also a dangerous precedent being set by these executives.
In the…
PlayStation Reigns Supreme in 2018, But What Comes Next?
When it came to genre-defining titles, amazing console exclusives, and exuberant sales, the PlayStation 4 has been nothing but a success. There have been a number of exclusives to the console this year, all with varying degrees of success and genre-bending. Each exclusive title, from the massively successful Spider-Man to the narrative powerhouse that is God of War, has brought most of the gaming world’s attention to Sony’s platform. …
On September 6th, 2018, Childish Gambino embarked on his “This is America” tour in Atlanta, Georgia. It was on this date that he announced, suddenly, that this was “the last Childish Gambino tour ever.”
It seems that many artists of late have announced some sort of “final tour” as of late. Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, and Anita Baker have also recently embarked on their farewell tours, some of which span numerous dates into next year. These artists have been performing and touring for as long as I have lived. …
